Urban Forestry

Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center has a number of trees. An Urban Forest sequesters carbon (takes carbon out of the air and stores it inside the tree), removes air pollutants, lessens damage from storm water runoff and helps reduce energy costs to an urban population.

Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center in Walkersville, Maryland is located in an increasing developed, urban area.  The trees located in the park can be considered as part of urban forestry.

The trees in the park, along with being pretty to look at, provide a place for birds and animals to live. The trees help our environment in many ways.

Would you like to know more about an urban forest or trees in general?  Stop by Fountain Rock Park’s Nature Center and ask one of our friendly staff or volunteers.  They will be glad to answer your questions.  The Nature Center is open on weekends.  Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.  The park grounds are open 7 days a week, except holidays, starting at 8:00am.
