It is a beautiful snowy and sunny day outside. If you have feeders – this is a great day for bird watching! We have seen nuthatches, cardinals, chickadees, woodpeckers, and many other birds here this winter. We do have to be careful not to overfill the feeders here at the park otherwise the racoons come out at night and empty them for us:)
We are very fortunate to have Keith & Beth Hamilton from “Wild Birds Unlimited” (located on Wormans Mill in the shopping center)conduct Bird Walks here at Fountain Rock Park. They go all around the park into our different habitats so that you may also see ducks, geese, hawks, evidence of owls, and maybe a heron at the pond. The next walk will be on February 16th at 10am (meet at the Nature Center) to count species for the “Great Backyard Bird Count”. This is a free program and some binoculars will be provided.
I would also like to send a big THANK YOU to Keith & Beth! They choose a charity to donate 10% of their weekend before Christmas sales to and this year they picked the Maryland Bluebird Society and Fountain Rock Park! They are donating $465.00 to our Nature Council -wow! Thank you so very much:)
